Point Guard Not The Problem

Matthew Dellavedova’s strong recent play has been a pleasant surprise for the Bucks considering his struggles for most of his first season in Milwaukee.

Still with the more reliable presence of Malcolm Brogdon cleared to play again after a couple of games out with a back injury, raised eyebrows were to be expected when Jason Kidd announced that Dellavedova would hold on to his starting spot on this occasion.

The Australian continued to impress, though, with his shooting touch’s welcome resurgence showing no signs of slowing up. Delly compiled 13 points on 5-7 shooting, including 3-4 makes from behind the three-point line.

Those numbers only further bolstered the 26-year-old’s hot form, as his last five games have seen him average 46 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from deep on 4.2 triple attempts per game.

Even better for the Bucks, Delly was joined by a stellar performance from the returning Brogdon. Not only did the former Virginia Cavalier put up 15 points on 5-10 from the field, but he also chipped in with a greater playmaking influence than his fellow point guard. Dellavedova may be better suited to working off the ball, but Brogdon’s eight assists were a necessary helping hand.

A 20-point loss is never fun, but considering the struggles the Bucks have had at point guard over the years — and even this season — they’ll have to be pleased with positive production coming from both of their point guards.
