Age Is Just A (Perfect) Number

As Bucks fans have seen first-hand this season, age no longer plays quite as definite a role in the decline of NBA players as it did in the past.

Cerebral veterans who have taken care of their bodies over the years can extend their careers deep into their 30s as Milwaukee’s 39-year-old Jason Terry has. On Monday, Vince Carter proved that stretch can even expand into the next decade too.

Carter has transformed his game from being one of the league’s most explosive athletes and dominant scorers, to settle into a low usage, spot-up shooter role in the latter years of his career. He’s been doing so with impressive efficiency for quite a while, but he took that to new heights in this game.

Carter didn’t miss a single shot in 30 minutes of play, going 8-8 from the field, 6-6 from deep, and 2-2 from the charity stripe. The Florida native also five rebounds, three steals and two assists to his 24-point total.

It speaks volumes of Carter that he’s still able to do this all these years past his prime. As for what it says about the Bucks for allowing him to go off, well that’s a bigger discussion altogether.
