Major Key For Los Angeles: Move The Ball

Despite the presence of the Point God in Los Angeles, the Clippers are just 16th among NBA teams in assists per game. That’s a shame for the Clips, because they’re especially dominant when they move the ball.

When L.A. racks up 25 or more team assists, the team is 17-3 this season. Chris Paul certainly helps with that–he’s recorded ten or more assists 20 times this season. When CP3 gets double-digit assists numbers Los Angeles is 14-6.

It must be tempting for the Clippers to just toss the ball down low to Blake Griffin and let him work sometimes, but that’s not the key to success here. Keeping the basketball whipping around the floor makes Los Angeles much better as a team.

Even without passing the ball all too often, the Clippers are seventh in the NBA in offensive rating. Los Angeles’ offense is potent without a ton of assists. When the Clips get the ball moving, they become nearly unstoppable.
