Major Key For Charlotte: Make Some Three-Pointers
The Charlotte Hornets may not be getting results in terms of wins this season, but it’s hard to fault the theory behind most of what the Hornets do. In addition to Clifford instructing his team to avoid turning the ball over, he’s got his team shooting a lot from outside.
The Hornets may not have the kind of shooters that the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers do, but Charlotte is still eighth among NBA teams in terms of three-pointers attempted per game.
The Hornets lack of skilled shooters means the team is 17th in three-point percentage and just 10th in made threes per game, but that’s still a substantial amount of points coming from beyond the arc.
Some of the reason the Hornets struggle may be their lack of ability to cash in on shots within the arc. Charlotte is 25th in both field goal percentage and two-point percentage. Despite the team’s high volume of taken threes the Hornets don’t score the ball incredibly efficiently.
Making some of those threes that the Hornets attempt will make a huge difference on Monday night. In the last game these two teams played, Charlotte converted on just seven of their 28 attempts from long-range. Shooting 25 percent from beyond the arc isn’t enough to justify taking all of those three-pointers.
