Giannis Struggles

Giannis Antetokounmpo had been the best player on the court for each of the first three games, but his performance on Saturday left much to be desired. While he managed only 14 points, the most disappointing aspect was his seven turnovers.

Sloppy passing and discombobulated play would be the story of the night for Giannis. Often throughout the night, Antetokounmpo would have a small guard playing defense on him, but wouldn’t end up scoring or creating a basket. His poor passing and finishing at the rim were very uncharacteristic of a player who usually excels in both of these categories.

He also seemed to lack aggression. Often it looked as if Giannis was trying to get his team involved, which might be the correct play, but he should have probably tried to score more often. Giannis also settled for jumpers early in the shot clock, when he could have worked to get closer to the basket. Just four free throw attempts tell you much of what you need to know about the sort of night Giannis had.

The Bucks need to come out and play better in their next game. Ball movement stagnated, and the team looked purposeless on offense far too often. There wasn’t a good plan and it showed.
