The Worst of Henson

Bucks’ fans want more from John Henson. It’s not that Henson had a bad year, it’s that he had the same kind of year that Milwaukee has been waiting for him to break out from for a number of years.

Henson put up his worst field goal percentage since his rookie year shooting 51.5 percent, which sounds like an above average mark, but remember 251 of of the 309 shots Henson taken were from eight feet or less.

Those sweet left handed hooks from less than five feet are golden in my book, but they need to be as automatic as brats being the meat of choice at a Milwaukee tailgate.

What’s more telling is Henson’s performance in two fundamental shot types.

  • Jump shots – 21.6 percent
  • Layups – 40.6 percent

It’s hard to keep a player on the court with those statistics. Henson has just completed the first season of his four-year/$44 million contract and with Thon Maker developing, and Greg Monroe providing a steady and skilled veteran presence, it’s time to see a step above from John Henson.
