Salary

It’s easy to look at just about any NBA free agent these days and assume that they are going to get paid. There’s a few reasons why that might not be true in this case. First and foremost, a lot of teams got burned by bad deals to wing players this past summer.

Guys like Evan Turner, Allen Crabbe, Nicolas Batum and Jordan Clarkson are getting paid a ton, and none of them are truly good enough to live up to their salaries. The salary cap continues to rise, but it won’t do that forever, and with star players making more than ever any good team needs to pinch pennies.

In addition, players like Evans haven’t been making a ton of money lately unless they’re legitimate stars, like DeMar DeRozan. Lower profile chuckers like Dion Waiters (who will get paid this summer, but did not last time around), Ish Smith and Langston Galloway didn’t get paid well for their services, comparatively speaking at least.

With Evans’ injury history and not-so-stellar reputation, he might be available at a bargain price when NBA free agency rolls around. The Los Angeles Clippers did hand Jamal Crawford $42 million for three years, though, so maybe I’m wrong.
