Value

Although many Bucks fans likely had favorites left on the board when Wilson was selected, it would be hard to argue that he was a major reach.

With the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Luke Kennard, Justin Jackson, Bam Adebayo and Justin Patton all off the board, the Bucks were certainly freed up to take a bigger risk than they might have otherwise.

The talent and potential upside of players like Harry Giles and OG Anunoby certainly would have made for understandable selections at that spot, but ultimately the Bucks aren’t hurt by avoiding players with pre-existing ACL problems, particularly considering Jabari Parker’s own issues.

Wilson represented a player who offered a palatable selection in terms of both long-term potential and current ability. He could be described as a pick who follows a best player available strategy and an area of need for the Bucks, and in theory that’s the result every team should be aiming for.

Although not highly touted throughout the process, Wilson was a strong riser in mock drafts and big boards in the final week and started the draft projected around the Bucks’ range.
