Salary

This is a very interesting case. A top seven pick just four years ago, Ben McLemore should have a huge market in NBA free agency. After all, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is probably going to get a max offer sheet from somewhere and force the Detroit Pistons to enter basketball purgatory.

Still, the writing is on the wall for McLemore right now. He failed to impress the Kings — or any of the teams who Sacramento talked to about potential trades — to an almost epic extent. To put their decision into perspective, another 2013 draft pick who didn’t get a qualifying offer extended to them this summer is Michael Carter-Williams.

It would be surprising if McLemore couldn’t find any deals this summer, but he’s not going to be a belle of the ball like KCP in NBA free agency. That over 38 percent from deep will likely keep McLemore around the NBA for a while longer, even if Sacramento jettisoned him so easily.

That all being said, McLemore probably isn’t getting much more than a few million. Seeing some team like the Los Angeles Clippers try to steal him and add cheap, young wing depth wouldn’t be a surprise, although L.A. might be busy trying to sign Blake Griffin.
