Wilson vs Wilson

To the great amusement of the broadcasters on ESPN 2/3 (the game moved around due to the MLB Home Run Derby, which Eric Thames wasn’t even in so I’m not sure why it was televised at all) the first half of this game featured a scoring duel between Jamil Wilson of the Clippers and D.J. Wilson of the Bucks.

Does the name Jamil Wilson sound familiar? It should, to fans of other basketball teams who play in Milwaukee. The former Marquette forward and Milwaukee native spent three years playing collegiate ball in the city and bounced around the G-League and other places before ending up with the Clippers in Summer League this year.

Jamil shot 80 percent from the field and posted 18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a block in a strong performance that saw him not miss a shot in the first half. D.J., on the other hand, hit seven of his 13 attempted shots and put up 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

It’s too bad his Clippers got the best of the Bucks in this matchup, but it was fun to watch Jamil Wilson square off with D.J. Wilson on Monday. All the best to Jamil, who hopefully just put himself on some teams’ radars with that nice performance.
