Small Forward

Another tough call, but not nearly as tough as shooting guard was. Bob Dandridge was a really strong player and played an important role on Milwaukee’s title team, and Glenn Robinson was a great Buck for a long time, but it’s pretty hard to make the case that either of them are better than Marques Johnson.

In seven seasons with the Bucks, Marques scored more than 20 points per game more than he didn’t, and he averaged a double-double in one of the two seasons where he didn’t manage to hit the 20 point per game mark.

It’s really hard to pick a peak Marques season, mostly because he was damn good for the duration of his Bucks career. It’s easy to just take his best scoring season, but this team likely isn’t going to be struggling to put points on the board. Let’s go in a different direction here.

Marques didn’t average career-highs in scoring or rebounding in the 1980-81 season, but he did dish more assists than ever, and his scoring was incredibly efficient. Marques averaged 20.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on a career-best 55.2 percent field goal shooting mark.

He moved the ball well, grabbed more offensive rebounds per game than in any other season except for his rookie year, and scored super efficiently. This version of Marques Johnson was built to be a part of a super team like this one.

Lineup so far: Oscar, Ray, Marques
