Expectations for Henson this season

Setting expectations for Henson is almost a sure-fire path to disappointment, and as he enters this year with lower expectations than many have had for him for a number of years, perhaps that will free the North Carolina native up to play more naturally.

The hope for Henson would be that he stays healthy, and proves reliable and effective enough to make him a valid option to start in any spell when the still learning Thon Maker is struggling, injured or in need of rest.

Otherwise, Henson doesn’t have the offensive repertoire to drive the second unit forward a la Greg Monroe, and will likely find himself on the outside looking in.

In previous years, perhaps when lacking in confidence, Henson has played smaller than his considerable height and wingspan. To change the narrative in 2017-18, he needs to use his physical attributes to be more forceful and dominant around the rim on both ends.

Hopes of Henson being a game-changing big man have likely sailed at this point, but if he could make himself an effective contributor again, that would definitely be a positive start for player and team alike.
