The dynamic duo of Hook and Moose

With the more proven and experienced players getting the majority of their minutes during the first half, there was obviously more to evaluate from with the players we’re far more used to watching play at this point.

Of the positions that were well covered on the night, both John Henson and Greg Monroe looked rock solid in their respective runs playing at the 5.

Getting the starting nod in place of Thon Maker, Henson was active early as he cleaned up everything that came his way on the offensive end, whether it was setting screens, diving to and even going above the rim to slam home an alley-oop or two. In total, Henson scored 11 points on 5-6 from the field and posted four rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block each in a little over 13 minutes.

Coming off the bench, Monroe put in a typical performance we’ve come to expect from him, especially after his resurgent season last year. Playing 17 minutes, Monroe scored 12 points on 6-8 from the field, hauled in seven rebounds, recorded two assists, three turnovers, a steal and a block.

Battling against the Mavericks’ big men, Monroe did his best to bully his assignment in the post to generally positive results and he showed the same chemistry he developed last season with both Khris Middleton and Malcolm Brogdon.

All in all, it was good to see both Henson and Monroe combine for a consistent performance from the center spot, especially under atypical circumstances than we were used to seeing during the second half of last season.
