Milwaukee Bucks: Takeaways from loss to Dallas Mavericks
Looking at the training camp invitees
One of the biggest storylines throughout the preseason for the Bucks is the battle for the team’s last roster spot, especially after bringing in players who carry varying degrees of NBA experience, respectively.
Of the players who are vying for that opening, it was point guard and old friend Kendall Marshall who made the biggest impression on Monday night.
Although he failed to score a single point (Marshall’s lone shot was a missed three), Marshall stuck to what he does best by slinging the ball to open teammates as well as connecting on incredible angles in the pick-and-roll. By doing so, the Virginia native registered a game-high 10 assists in his 16 minutes of play.
Unfortunately, Marshall’s outing is really the only one worth remarking on of the players on training camp deals.
Gerald Green converted his only attempt from the field and made a nice dish to Khris Middleton during his seven minutes of action, while Brandon Rush hit his only point in his 13 minutes on a technical free throw after a defensive three seconds violation by the Mavericks early in the third quarter.
Coupling that along with James Young getting a DNP-CD, it’s safe to say we aren’t all that closer to seeing who may have the upper hand in prolonging their stay with the team and Milwaukee in general (if things have even developed to that point in the team’s training camp).
Whether that will change the deeper we get into the week remains to be seen, but it sure would be interesting to see the competition for the last roster spot heat up in a very real way in the team’s remaining preseason slate.
