Milwaukee Bucks: Greg Monroe season preview 2017-2018

Expectations for Monroe this season

A reasonable expectation for Greg Monroe’s performance this year should be something similar to his play from last season. While he is not quite the player the Bucks were expecting when they originally signed him to their contract, he is still one of their most important players.

If Monroe continues on last season’s improvement, and the Bucks exceed expectations, it is reasonable for him to contend for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year. At the minimum he should continue to be Milwaukee’s second unit leader and a dynamic scorer off of the bench.

In order to stay on the court, Monroe’s defensive play will also have to remain consistent this year. Assuming he plays with the same effort and awareness he did last season, the Bucks will have no problem relying on Monroe for big minutes, once again.

Monroe’s tenure with the Bucks has certainly had its ups-and-downs. He probably will never reach the lofty expectations set for him when he originally signed a maximum contract. However, with what is possibly his last year being so pivotal for the Bucks, he has the opportunity to leave a positive lasting impact on the franchise
