What is Middleton saying?

Obviously due to the nature of last season, Middleton’s injury status is at the forefront of most Bucks fans’ minds. When asked on the matter, Middleton, himself, was rather upbeat.

"“I feel great. Last time I had a great summer it was the best I’d felt in a long time, and this summer is the same thing. I put a lot of work into my body, tried to change the way I eat, my training. I’ve spent a lot of time with the training staff here, just trying to get my leg strong, back to where it was and even stronger, and just overall strength. But I feel great, better than I did coming into last season.”"

Obviously, given the events which led to the injury last season, it’s difficult to label Middleton as injury-prone. With that being said, however, it’s always good to hear a player is progressing well with their rehabilitation and given his comments and preseason form, all signs are looking good.

Another important factor in Middleton’s upcoming season is his link up with fellow Bucks’ star Antetokounmpo.

"“The longer you’re with someone the more you get to know them. We’ve been together for five years starting tomorrow, so we know each other. He knows how I like to play, I know how he likes to play. I’m a shooter so that opens up the lane for him, he’s a driver so guys are going to help and that’s going to leave me open.”"

For the Bucks to go anywhere this season, it’s clear that these two are going to be vitally important to that cause.

Lastly, a rather well known fact of the league is the diminishing number of “powerhouse” teams in the Eastern Conference. Middleton was a touch more reserved in his comments on the matter however, perhaps as a means to temper expectations for the Bucks this year.

"“As a team we know where we want to get to. It’s all about working. It’s not going to be easy. Everybody is saying the East is wide open and that it’s going to be easy, but it’s not. All the teams are working for the same goal, and you’ve got other great players and great teams still.”"
