A Celtic to watch: Kyrie Irving

Maybe he’s the best player on the team, maybe he isn’t, but either way it will be really fun to watch Kyrie Irving in his second game as a Celtic on Wednesday. Kyrie just balled out against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Opening Night and was a missed three away from a truly heroic moment, and the Bucks certainly hope he decides to take it easy for his second game of the year.

The subject of intense speculation ever since his trade request was documented by the media, Kyrie likely wants nothing more than to focus on basketball for now. He is smart enough to know that playing well is one of the easiest ways to get people around the Association to do just that.

In his fourth All-Star campaign, Irving averaged 25.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.2 steals per game last season. He shot 47.3 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from deep in what was likely his finest season.

Kyrie has said he’d like to be more of a passer now that he’ll have the ball in his hands more often. It will be interesting to see how much of that actually happens when his Celtics host the Bucks, but Malcolm Brogdon would probably be down for Kyrie to spend less time showing off his jaw-dropping handles and more time dishing the rock.
