Positive takeaway

We may be heading into cliché territory here, but it was hard to not be struck by the team’s resolve down the latter stages of the game against the Vipers.

It was very easy to think the Herd looked dead in the water and would fall in their opening game, which had been par for the course for fellow expansion G League squads to start the season.

Coupling that with the fact that they were without key pieces like Cliff Alexander and Gary Payton II for the night (and will be for the next few games at least), we could have chalked up their opening performance as the effect of the team not being at full strength.

But their magnificent performance in the fourth quarter, in which they outscored the Vipers 39-24, showed the potential the Herd may have this season and when they’re running on all cylinders on both ends of the floor.

There’s going to be nights when they deal with similar circumstances and will fall because of it, but it only seemed fitting for the Herd to rise victorious through all the adversity they had to overcome in their first ever game.
