Concerning takeaway

While last night’s win is certainly cause for celebration, there were some elements of the Herd’s performance that they’ll surely look to iron out as the season goes on.

Of all the blemishes in the team’s performance, it was the Herd’s carelessness with the ball at times that stood out as they registered 19 turnovers on the night. It was fairly common to see possessions break down in the earlier stages of the game as the Herd very much looked like a team still trying to find their chemistry and collective rhythm.

That obviously goes for all teams in the G League, considering the amount of turnover that goes on year after year, but it was much more than that as we saw the Herd cough up unforced errors from time to time as well.

It obviously wasn’t a problem that was isolated to the Herd as they actually got the better of the Vipers in the turnover battle by a margin of four turnovers, 23-19.

Due to the calculated comeback they were able to manage down the stretch, it only shows the stark contrast in how the Herd were able to build consistency by taking care of the ball for meaningful runs to pull off the victory, despite their early miscues.
