Player of the game

The Herd had solid contributions from the likes of James Young and Joel Bolomboy last night against the Vipers. However, it’s hard to go with anyone other than the man who capped off the thrilling victory, Xavier Munford.

In 39 minutes of action, Munford scored 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field (5-of-8 from deep), hauled in five rebounds, dished out nine assists, grabbed two steals, registered four turnovers and was a +2 on the night.

While his stat line easily shows how productive he was, it was the manner of how Munford operated down the final stretch of the game that helped his team to prevail over the Vipers.

After all, Munford captained the comeback for the Herd late in the game, whether it was creating his own offense or connecting with teammates for successful possessions as the Rhode Island product had a hand in creating 17 of the team’s final 27 points from the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter until the end of the game.

And of course, who could forget the last second corner three Munford sank to put the finishing touch on the Herd’s comeback? (We strongly suggest repeat viewings of the following clip below).

Last night showed why the Herd dealt away key assets to secure Munford’s rights to make him a centerpiece for their inaugural roster. Here’s to many more nights like this for him over the course of the season.
