Positive takeaway

Turnovers had been a major problem for the Herd, even in their positive results, through their first three games. On Saturday that was finally remedied, though, and it came in the context of what was a very efficient performance in all departments.

The Bighorns won the rebounding battle by a wide margin and attempted 14 more free throws than the Herd, but Wisconsin managed to maximize their possessions and come away with a win all the same.

Following 24 turnovers the night before in Santa Cruz, the Herd had just 13 in Reno on Saturday. Wisconsin also managed to shoot a stellar 49 percent from the field, along with 38 percent from deep.

Meanwhile the Bighorns struggled at 38 percent from the field and 32 percent from deep.

The Herd haven’t shown themselves to be a high assist team in the season’s early running, and as such, limiting turnovers is going to be crucial. On this occasion, they gave a great example of how a team can be bested in a variety of key battles and still come out on top simply by valuing possession.
