The Henson revival

Raise your hand if you knew that John Henson was going to be this impressive to start the season. Now put your hands down, you liars.

After looking great in the pre-season, Henson has looked perhaps even more impressive to start the year. Starting the season third on the depth chart, Henson looked to be a fringe rotation-player at best. After gradually earning more-and-more time due to stellar play, Henson is, for now, the team’s undisputed starting center.

On Monday night he only solidified that role. In only 25 minutes, Henson scored 17 points on 80 percent shooting, snared eight rebounds, and even dished out three dimes. All of this helped make him responsible for a +13 plus/minus.

Perhaps one the most impressive parts of Henson’s night was his four offensive rebounds. The Bucks have been a poor rebounding team for some time now, particularly on the offensive end. If Henson is able to provide the Bucks with an interior rebounding presence, it might be enough to catapult the Bucks into elite offensive territory.

Henson’s improved play is what made the Bledsoe trade possible. His ability to provide real minutes at the center position is what made Greg Monroe expendable. The Bucks are now more reliant on Henson than ever, and if he can continue to play like he did on Monday that won’t be a problem.
