Major key for Detroit – Scoring by committee

Lacking a superstar talent, the Detroit Pistons have been doing an excellent job of sharing the scoring load.

Detroit currently has 11 players averaging at least five points per game, with Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond as the leaders of that group with their double digit averages.

The fact that the Pistons are currently riding high in second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 10-3, with just one player averaging 20 points per game is really impressive. At 20.1 points per game, it’s entirely possible that Tobias Harris could even fall below that mark soon too.

Without a cornerstone option, a la Giannis, who can be relied upon to pull the team through games on a night-to-night basis, it means the Pistons are more reliant on team cohesion than a lot of other teams would be. The balanced scoring will likely mean they can be consistently good throughout the season, but it may also mean that when they’re just a little off, things could get really ugly.
