Bench struggles

For the third game in a row the Milwaukee Bucks’ bench was destroyed. Despite a surprising eight point performance from guard Gary Payton II, the Bucks were only able to manage 16 total bench points on Monday, two less than Washington Wizard Kelly Oubre.

Included in the disappointing night from the bench was a particularly bad performance from Malcolm Brogdon. Brogdon was held scoreless for the first time in over a calendar year, shooting 0-4 from the field, in only 17 minutes.

Brogdon’s play is a major concern for the Bucks. The reigning Rookie of the Year, has struggled since moving to the bench, particularly as of late.

When trading Greg Monroe, the Bucks knew they were giving up an efficient low-post scorer off of the bench. Many hoped Brogdon’s move to the bench would help supplement some of that scoring in second units, but that has yet to be the case.

Scoring wasn’t the only problem for the Bucks’ bench on Monday. The bench unit as a whole only recorded two rebounds, had five total assists, and not one player recorded a positive +/-.

The Washington Wizards are known for their poor bench play. Being outplayed like that consistently, will make Milwaukee known for that as well.
