Concerning takeaway

While the offense was generally solid on Wednesday, the Herd turned in their worst defensive performance of the season to date to render any positives on the opposite end as largely irrelevant.

The Delaware 87ers were allowed to shoot a blistering 54 percent from the field, even after the Herd had held them scoreless for the opening few minutes of the game.

Although the 87ers shot a very solid 39 percent on 31 attempts from deep, it was on the inside where they managed to do the bulk of their work.

Delaware was allowed a host of high percentage looks at the rim, and even when they happened to be unsuccessful the result was generally that they earned a trip to the free throw line.

The 87ers attempted a remarkable 41 free throw attempts, making an impressive 85 percent of those shots. With only 76 percent shooting on 26 free throw attempts down the other end, the Herd left themselves with too much to do thanks to the free throw differential.

For the season overall, the Herd’s defense ranks 15th in the G League, showing that it’s an area they could benefit from tightening up in going forward.
