Positive takeaway

Without Joel Bolomboy and Michael Dunigan in the lineup in recent weeks, it wouldn’t necessarily have been all that surprising if the Herd had struggled a little in terms of the play from their big men.

Instead, the Herd have proven that they’re just as deep and talented in the frontcourt as they are across positions 1-3.

Saturday night proved to be a great example of this, as with Cliff Alexander failing to rebound at his usual level, the rest of the Herd’s big men stepped up.

Kyle Casey has been one of the team’s most reliable role players throughout the season, and he only further enhanced that reputation with a well-rounded six points, eight rebounds and four assists on Saturday night.

It’s Cameron Oliver who really looks to be coming on strong for Wisconsin, though. Oliver’s role is becoming more and more integral to what Jordan Brady’s team do with every passing game.

Oliver isn’t afraid to splash home a jump shot, and embraces physicality down low too. Herd fans have already become accustomed to the former Nevada man’s forceful dunks, and he unleashed one of his most powerful yet against the Nets.

Beyond that, Oliver also chipped in with eight rebounds, making his presence felt across the court.

The Herd boast outstanding individual players, but they’re stacked across the floor too. The frontcourt deserve just as much praise, respect and recognition as the backcourt and wings.
