Concerning takeaway

Following on from our discussion of third quarter meltdowns in this section following Friday’s win over the Skyforce, the Herd once again fell back into that same trap.

Having once led by as many as 18 points, Wisconsin allowed Erie to fight their way all the way back and even lead down the stretch.

On this occasion, the Bayhawks’ comeback came via an unbelievable burst from Atlanta Hawks’ two-way player Josh Magette, who scored 21 points in the third quarter, including six three-pointers.

While some of those threes came from audaciously deep attempts from Magette and maybe were less attributable to Herd mistakes, the point stands that Wisconsin has real difficulty in holding on to the sizable leads they often build up.

As Justin Hull noted in the broadcast, the Herd have yet to win a game by a double-digit margin so far this season. Considering their dominance in so many games, that’s a truly remarkable stat. Sooner or later, they’re going to have start making things a little bit easier for themselves, though.
