Bench Points

While Kemba Walker and Dwight Howard without question played a large role in the Hornets’ comeback victory on Saturday night, a look at the box score tells an interesting story.

Even with Howard’s massive stat line, the Bucks still outscored the Hornets by five points while the former All-Star was on the court. Two other Hornets’ starters had a negative +/- as well, while Kemba Walker was only a +1.

Charlotte’s bench however played a dramatic role in the game. Treveon Graham, Frank Kaminsky, and Jeremy Lamb all played major parts in the comeback victory, and the trio combined for a plus/minus of  +38.

The Bucks bench did not fare nearly as well as only one member of the unit, Sean Kilpatrick, finished with a positive plus/minus. Malcolm Brogdon played 33 minutes for the Bucks but shot only 5-of-12, did not hit a three, did not get to the free throw line, did not record a rebound, and the Bucks were outscored by 19 when the reigning rookie of the year was on the floor.

Simply put, the Bucks’ bench unit was severely out played on Saturday, and it was a major reason why the Bucks did not finish off the Hornets.
