Concerning takeaway

In a more grounded basketball sense, it’s impossible to ignore how the first and fourth quarters highlighted just how much the Herd will miss Young and Munford.

While Munford will likely still find himself in Oshkosh regularly between now and the end of the season, the team will have to manage without him more than they have had to up to this point. Young helped soften the blow earlier in the season, but now Wisconsin needs to look elsewhere.

Even with help from D.J. Wilson and Chris McCullough who were both on assignment from the NBA, the most obvious challenge the Herd faced on Saturday was finding scoring.

Matched up with an opponent that boasts the G League’s leading scorer, Antonio Blakeney, Wisconsin lacked some punch.

Joel Bolomboy did his best to help and JeQuan Lewis came up with a big performance off the bench, but the Herd ran out of gas in the fourth when the help that would usually arrive from Munford or Young wasn’t forthcoming.

There’s going to be an adjustment period for the Herd’s players, and there may also be a need for the team’s front office to find another diamond in the rough.
