Sterling’s first start

After several positive showings in a recently-increased role, Sterling Brown made his first career start against the Sixers.

The 6’6″ shooting guard out of SMU logged a whopping 39 minutes and scored 14 points. So far this season he has earned a reputation as a good three-point shooter, and a tough defender with a nose for the ball. He went 4-of-7 on three pointers in the game, and appears to be carving out a place for himself as a rotation wing.

It was especially encouraging to see him find his shot in a number of different ways. Late in the first quarter he buried a three off a dribble hand-off, and on the following position he hit from deep while trailing in transition.

This tantalizing display was followed up by a moment Brown will need to learn from. After catching on the wing, Brown had a great look from three that he passed up. He pump faked and got by his man, but lost the ball, resulting in a momentum-killing turnover.

Who knows what Coach Kidd has in mind for the Bucks’ second round pick, but it seems like the young man should be launching whenever he has a clean look from beyond the arc.

Brown has been a good rebounder in his limited appearances so far, but in this game he underwhelmed, with just two boards on the night. After Middleton, the next best rebounder on the Bucks was the recently-acquired Marshall Plumlee.
