Milwaukee Bucks: 10 potential head coaching candidates
By Adam McGee
Joe Prunty
Considering he holds the job on an interim basis at the moment, Joe Prunty controls his own destiny in the race to be the Bucks’ next head coach.
Although his connections to the previous regime might act against him, a positive finish to the season would quickly turn much of those concerns on their head.
He’s a lifetime coach who came through the Gregg Popovich school of assistant coaches, has experience of coaching at the international level, and most importantly of all, he has the inside track.
Prunty has working relationships with players, management and ownership, and general manager Jon Horst has indicated he has as much of a chance as anyone of landing the job if he can get the Bucks to perform up to expectations in the coming months.
"“We fully trust and want to empower Joe in this opportunity, and he’ll be the head coach for the rest of the season. Based on that, he’ll earn an opportunity to be part of the bigger search in the summer.”"
Prunty’s fingerprints have been all over the Bucks’ offense for years due to his role as an assistant coach, but the impact he can have on the team’s defense will likely be a deciding factor in just how much consideration he warrants in the longer term.
