Dewayne Dedmon

According to Mark Deeks of GiveMeSport, the Atlanta Hawks are trying to trade center Dewayne Dedmon. Considering the Hawks are the worst team in the NBA record-wise, and have little to play for over what are potentially the final few months of Dedmon’s contract, this makes perfect sense.

Dedmon signed for the Hawks as a free agent in the summer, and was earning $6 million this season with a player option for $6.3 million for next year. Considering Dedmon’s production, it’s very possible that he will opt out of that final year to test the free agent market once again.

So what would Dedmon offer the Bucks in a deal that would potentially represent little more than a three-month rental?

Listed at 7’0″ and 245lbs, Dedmon offers legitimate size and has shown an understanding of how to utilize his body to command the paint.

For the season to date, Dedmon is averaging 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists, while shooting 55.9 percent from the field in 23.2 minutes per game. Intriguingly, Dedmon has also started to shoot the three-pointer, averaging 38.9 percent on 1.7 attempts per game from deep with the Hawks.

Dedmon would provide defensive solidity, a much-needed rebounding boost and an underrated offensive game while manning the middle. If he was to opt in for the final year of his contract, that would probably be a positive too.
