Ray Allen

Slam Dunk Contest: 1997

Three-Point Shootout: 2000-02 (2001 champion)

Along with three All-Star selections during his time as a Buck, Ray Allen was something of a staple at the rest of the weekend’s big events.

In fact, Allen’s appearances at All-Star Saturday events act as something of a map for his evolution — or at least the perception of him as a player — in the early years of his career.

As a rookie, Allen showcased his athleticism with three clean slams in the 1997 Dunk Contest. Allen’s efforts weren’t enough to prevent him from narrowly missing out on advancing to the final stage, though, as Kobe Bryant would go on to be crowned as champion.

While dunking may have been Allen’s calling card in the earliest stages of his career, he became more associated with his jump shooting as time progressed. Unsurprisingly, that led to six appearances in the Three-Point Shootout for Allen, including three during his time in Milwaukee.

The obvious highlight came in 2001 when Allen picked up the sole Three-Point Shootout win of his career, although he also went close with a third place finish in 2000.
