What’s up with Tony?

For the third time in seven games, Tony Snell was left scoreless on Friday night. In the past 13 games (ironically since Jason Kidd’s termination), Snell is averaging only 4.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists.

It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly is happening with Snell as he seems engaged most games, until you look up at the box score and see how little impact he has had on the game.

Snell shot out of the gates to start the season, averaging almost nine points a game while shooting close to 48 percent from three. Everything was clicking as the fifth year guard was recapturing much of the form which led to the four year, $46 million deal he signed at the beginning of free agency last July.

At the time, most fans and experts considered the deal reasonable for both parties after the career year Snell had in 2016-17. Unfortunately after his hot start this season, Snell was then sidelined with patellar tendinitis for five games. Since returning, his scoring average and efficiency has dropped right down.

Perhaps most worrying for Snell is the impending return to the roster of Malcolm Brodgon and the potential return to the starting lineup of star forward Jabari Parker. A fully fit and firing Tony Snell is the perfect foil for the Bucks’ Big 3 as a low usage player who can shoot and defend with the best of them. But as of right now, Snell is quickly playing himself out of the starting lineup.
