Major key for New Orleans – Find a spark from an unlikely source

Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday are more than capable of combining for 70 points on any given night, but considering the current state of the Pelicans’ roster, there’s still the matter of finding another player to step up and contribute meaningfully.

That concern was likely what motivated the Pelicans to trade for Nikola Mirotic prior to the trade deadline. Mirotic made his debut in the Pelicans’ overtime win over the Heat on Friday night, scoring 10 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes.

On an average night, that still may not be enough to get across the line for the win. In that same game, Ian Clark scored a crucial 21 points off the bench. Outside of Clark and Mirotic, New Orleans’ bench only contributed four points on that occasion.

In short, if the Pelicans can’t get some really significant help, particularly in scoring, from Mirotic, Clark or someone like E’Twaun Moore, the Bucks may simply be able to overwhelm them with their wealth of scoring options.
