Buck on assignment

Considering his rookie season has been entirely relegated to garbage time situations while with the Milwaukee Bucks, D.J. Wilson soaked up significant minutes with the Herd after being assigned to the team earlier in the afternoon to suit up for his 10th game with the affiliate.

Wilson made his presence known immediately as he helped fuel the Herd’s hot start on both ends of the floor. Offensively, Wilson was a magnet when leaking out and running the floor in transition in a similar fashion to seeing Bucks big man Thon Maker at points this season, both in terms of being fed the ball and in execution (admittedly, the number of turnovers he piled up weren’t necessarily Wilson’s fault).

Eventually, however, Wilson started capitalizing on his scoring opportunities in that way, playing a big part in why the Herd outscored the 905 17-7 in fast break points.

On the defensive end, Wilson showed plenty of promise in help situations, altering and blocking shots at the rim on a few occasions. The Michigan product even forced a turnover or two as well, specifically coming late in the fourth quarter as the Herd were fighting their uphill battle to close the gap on the 905.

In total, Wilson posted 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field (2-of-4 from deep), nine rebounds, eight turnovers, two steals as well as two blocks and was a -8 in 38 minutes of action.

With the break in between games and the Bucks still in Milwaukee ahead of their tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday night, it only made sense for Wilson to pick up some much needed reps with the Herd last night. With fewer chances to do that with the season coming to a close in less than three weeks, we’ll see how many more assignments are in store for Wilson this year.
