Playing Hook-y

From one struggling Buck to another, Wednesday night didn’t prove to be equally kind for sixth-year big man John Henson.

With Tyler Zeller out for the second straight game and Thon Maker recording a DNP-CD for the first time this season, Henson was the only traditional big man to get significant run last night as interim head coach Joe Prunty opted to roll out small ball lineups with both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker playing the 5-spot for significant stretches.

Whether that was due to the matchup problems posed by the Rockets or not, Henson didn’t make matters easier as he was exploited defensively in a similar manner to Parker, forcing Prunty’s hand to go smaller to boost their versatility at that position on the floor.

When it was all said and done, Henson put in six points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field, six rebounds, an assist and block each and was a -1 in nearly 20 minutes of time.

Since returning from the All-Star break and more specifically, from his nagging hamstring injury, Henson has struggled to hold the same impact resuming his role in the starting lineup. Having seen this story many times before throughout his career, hopefully picking up that injury doesn’t act as a turning point in what has been a resurgent season overall for the North Carolina product to this point.
