Concerning takeaway

Much like the best of their performance throughout Thursday night, the Herd weren’t without their foibles in a couple of key areas.

On the night, the Red Claws bombed away from deep as they put up 55 attempts from deep, converting 22 treys as a result. As much as that was by design, considering the Red Claws shoot the third-highest amount of three-pointers per game in all of the league, the Herd made their life easier behind the arc with half-hearted closeouts and a few too wide open corner threes as well (sound familiar, Bucks fans?).

Adding to that was the Herd’s inability to keep the Red Claws off of the glass on the offensive end as they pulled down 19 offensive rebounds for the game. As a result of those numerous reloads, the Red Claws put home 21 second chance points.

For those following along with the Herd all season or perhaps more recently due to the addition of now former Herd guard Brandon Jennings, that’s a story that’s been too familiar, no matter the result.

With the season just a week away from wrapping up, the Herd will likely finish as the worst team in all of the G League in allowing 16.8 second chance points per game, per NBA.com/stats. It seems fair to say that that mark won’t sit well with Herd head coach Jordan Brady by any means with the end of their season on the horizon.
