Milwaukee Bucks 2017-18 Season Review: Matthew Dellavedova
By Adam McGee
Summer focus and final grade
At the end of last season, speaking to media at exit interviews, Dellavedova spoke about his need and excitement for a summer of rest. After years of deep playoff runs with Cleveland and international play with Australia, Dellavedova noted he finally had a chance to work on his game and his body heading into a new season.
Perhaps Dellavedova did that and it would have paid off under different circumstances, but injuries got in the way. As a result, halfway through his rich contract with the Bucks, there can be little doubt that Dellavedova has been a major disappointment.
The Australian is undoubtedly valued as an important figure in the locker room in a leadership capacity, but on the court the Bucks simply need more from him.
In a situation that’s challenging from a cap perspective, Milwaukee at least need Dellavedova to be healthy and offer some positives on the court if he isn’t going to play well enough to live up to his deal or entice another team to take on the remainder of that contract via trade.
Across the course of the summer, Dellavedova needs to rest up and get ready for the new season, as the Bucks desperately need him to be a completely different player to who he’s been in his time in Milwaukee so far.
