Game of the season

Just over a week after going for a career-high night against the Maine Red Claws, Xavier Munford managed to top that mark in the Herd’s 119-112 loss to the Westchester Knicks in their penultimate game of the season back on March 21.

Surprisingly, Munford got off to a slow start on the night, whether that was struggling to establish a scoring rhythm early on in the game or even taking care of the ball against the Knicks’ third-ranked defense, per the G League’s stats database.

But once the game turned over into the second half, the flood gates opened for the Rhode Island product, which jumpstarted the Herd’s effort to get back in the game after being down by double digits for the majority of the first half.

Simply put, it was an incredible display of shot making by Munford, who basically willed the Herd until the final few ticks on the night and all coming with just mere moments to catch his breath on the sidelines or during stoppages in play.

In total, Munford finished with a Herd single-game scoring high 46 points on 15-of-28 shooting from the field (8-of-13 from three), eight rebounds, seven assists, six turnovers, three steals and was a -5 on the night in 45 minutes of play.

While he had more efficient performances throughout the year or even more consistent outings under better results, it was truly fitting for Munford to cap off his career year with his career night in the final week of the season.
