NBA Draft: Could Moritz Wagner offer the Bucks much-needed frontcourt shooting?
Weaknesses
The majority of concerns that revolve around Wagner’s game lie on the defensive end.
For starters, Wagner doesn’t have the ideal length you’d like to see out of a modern day 5, seeing that he possesses a seven-foot wingspan to go along with his 6’11” frame.
Additionally, Wagner was often bested and dispatched by more physical, stronger assignments during his time with the Wolverines, leaving him needing to add some bulk to his frame once he gets to the next level.
Lastly, Wagner could stand to become more disciplined as a defender, whether that’s improving on his engagement on that end or working on cutting out his penchant for getting into foul trouble, considering he logged 4.8 fouls per 40 minutes over his three seasons in Ann Arbor.
Moving beyond his defensive acumen, while Wagner is quite mobile for a player of his size, he doesn’t possess notable explosion or vertical athleticism at this point in his development. As a result, the 21-year-old will have to develop some level of savvy when having to protect the rim on the next level.
