Fit with the Bucks

Kurucs certainly has the potential to provide the kind of bench punch at the forward positions that the Bucks could be desperately in need of if Jabari Parker moves on this summer.

The 20-year-old has good size and should ultimately be able to play both the 3 and 4 spots, has a versatile range of offensive weapons, and an impressive scoring touch.

Kurucs has no problem putting the ball on the floor and driving to the basket, where his explosiveness and athleticism aids his finishing, and there’s an obvious path to him being a respectable bench scorer in the NBA.

The problem for the Bucks and any other team who may consider drafting Kurucs is his contract situation with Barcelona.

Kurucs has another year remaining on his contract and had a reported buyout of €4 million last year, which is much more expensive than NBA teams are generally eager to pay for international prospects at his level.

This could well play perfectly into the hands of some of the teams with more picks than open roster spots in this year’s draft (i.e. Philadelphia 76ers), but it will make it difficult to commit to a player whose game and situation are both filled with uncertainties for most teams around the league.

Kurucs could turn out to be a serviceable role player in the NBA, but with just a single pick in this draft it’s unlikely the Bucks will be the team to take that gamble.
