NBA Draft: Could Jalen Brunson help stabilize the point guard spot for the Bucks?
Weaknesses
While Brunson’s collegiate play and overall pedigree pretty much speaks for itself, his game is not without notable concerns in the eyes of scouts and draft pundits.
For starters, Brunson’s lack/low amount of upside is a notable hang up as it relates to his ceiling and likely role in the NBA. Those worries are heavily linked to Brunson’s age (21 years old) and athleticism level, which can be best described as limited.
That certainly shows in his struggles to separate from his defender in one-on-one situations offensively and similarly on the defensive end, where he’ll likely be hard pressed to hold his own against the more athletic point guards that are littered throughout the NBA.
Secondly, Brunson doesn’t possess overwhelming physical tools at the point guard position, seeing that he stands at 6’2.5″ and was measured with a 6’4″ wingspan at this year’s NBA Draft Combine, per NBA.com/stats.
How the New Jersey-born Brunson goes about combating those limitations will certainly be interesting to follow on the next level as well as how much value executives will put in the many areas he excels in to outweigh his physical and athletic disadvantages in the long run.
