11. Alex English

Alex English is a rare inclusion on this list, as his best days didn’t come with the Bucks. In fact, any praise for Milwaukee’s ability to identify English as a prospect worth picking also comes tinged with the disappointment of their complete failure to provide him with opportunity to play.

The combination of Marques Johnson and Junior Bridgeman ultimately limited the minutes Milwaukee had to offer English, but considering the player he went on to become, it’s tough not to question whether there was a way it could have been made to work.

English was picked in the second round of the 1976 draft, landing at 23 to Milwaukee after spending his college days at the University of South Carolina.

After two seasons and just over 2,000 minutes played, English was traded by the Bucks. When he eventually arrived in Denver in the middle of his career, English hit new levels of play and went on to make eight straight All-Star teams with the Nuggets.

They may have failed to utilize him, but the Bucks drafted one of the most talented offensive players and stars of the 80s. Considering how their own great teams just couldn’t get over the edge in that decade, English certainly had the potential to make all the difference.
