Ian Clark
Having impressed off the bench during his final season in Golden State, Ian Clark signed with the Pelicans last summer, giving himself the chance to take on a bigger role in his fifth season in the NBA.
Although he remained a rotation option in New Orleans, Clark did rack up a career-high 1455 minutes across the course of the season, playing in 74 games.
Clark has all of the tools required of a modern NBA wing, yet his three-point shooting didn’t quite hold up as well as the Pelicans would have hoped it would when the 27-year-old was taken away from the supreme spacing provided in Golden State.
In truth, Clark has been an average to below average three-point shooter for most of his career, with a very positive 37.4 percent success rate in 2016-17 being the exception rather than the rule.
Perhaps putting faith in Clark to develop that shot further is misguided based on that single season, but the glimpses of potential are there if he can hone his shooting a little bit further, and with solid defensive instincts, he may make for a worthwhile gamble as a cheap rotational wing with potential upside still remaining.
