Player of the game

Closing out his week in Las Vegas in style, Christian Wood was out in full force, standing as the Bucks’ best player by a wide margin in their loss to the Sixers Saturday night.

In 29 minutes of action, Wood logged a game-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field (1-for-3 from deep, 6-for-9 from the line), 12 rebounds, five blocks, one steal and a turnover, and was a +5 for the night.

As he has done for the majority of Summer League this year, Wood was absolutely fantastic in cleaning up on the glass and converting numerous second chance scores with powerful slam dunks. Along with that, the former Runnin’ Rebel got the benefit of the doubt from officials and made the most of his opportunities to get to the charity stripe as well.

Wood’s activity and movement went beyond just around the rim as he was key in creating scoring opportunities with open runways, whether in transition or when his teammates were struggling with double teams in the halfcourt.

Switching sides, Wood made his presence known defensively by sending away shots at the rim and occasionally near the perimeter along with altering attempts at the basket too.

As Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noted after the game, several NBA teams have taken an interest in Wood, in part due to what he achieved in Summer League this year with the Bucks.

Considering his big league aspirations and how he has continued to prove himself on the G League level, Wood may very well secure his spot in the NBA in the coming weeks and months ahead. The question that many Bucks fans will be asking themselves is whether Milwaukee will pounce on that chance before he potentially slips through their proverbial fingers.
