Malcolm Brogdon

Malcolm Brogdon is one of the most important players on the Bucks’ roster, acting as a glue guy of sorts in his Sixth Man/combo guard off the bench role.

The 2016-17 rookie of the year started the 2017-18 season quite strongly. In a starting role prior to the acquisition of Eric Bledsoe, he showed some improvement in key areas like ball-handling and off the dribble shooting. As seen in his stats, his points spiked up from 10.2 to 13 per game, his field goal attempts per game from 8.5 to 10.5, and his three-point attempts per game from 2.6 to 3.4.

However, it was not enough to change the fact that the point guard spot was a position of need, as the rotation of Malcolm Brogdon and Matthew Dellavedova still left something to be desired in terms of more dynamic shot creation. Put simply, this is why the Eric Bledsoe trade happened.

Brogdon also suffered a partial tear in his right quadricep tendon, which left him sidelined for nine weeks before the playoffs, meaning he was not in perfect game shape in the series against the Celtics.

Coming into the 2018-19 season healthy, and if he can continue improving in the same direction as he did the past year, it’s easy to imagine Brogdon becoming a good, reliable starter. The minimum requirement for him to get into any Bucks’ MIP conversation in my opinion would be for him to hit the 15 points per game mark, while maintaining the overall standards he’s shown previously.

Having a fourth player scoring at that level consistently would be really beneficial for the Bucks.
