Refine sharpshooting from three

With his primary role offensively centered beyond the arc within the Bucks’ system, Connaughton can surely take greater strides toward becoming a consistent three-point threat.

Through his first three years in the league, Connaughton has connected on 36.4 percent of his 264 three-point attempts. The bulk of those looks (210, to be exact) came during the Massachusetts native’s last season in Portland during the 2017-18 NBA season.

That increase in volume from downtown resulted in Connaughton’s three-point percentage, which came in at 35.2 percent on the year, fluctuating wildly, particularly after his hot start to the season — he shot as high as 48.4 percent from three during the month of October (seven games) and as low as 25.6 percent during December (13 games).

Some of that variance is to be expected, given how Connaughton more than tripled the minutes workload he compiled over his first two seasons in the league. Yet being a more consistent commodity when launching away from deep would do wonders for Connaughton as he looks to elevate his play in his new stop.

From that standpoint, it’s valid to say that Connaughton couldn’t have landed in a better spot to help round out his three-point specialist qualities than with the Bucks now with new head coach Mike Budenholzer and his staff in the fold.

With their collective pedigree in building up wing players into viable sharpshooters, Connaughton falls under the umbrella of those likely to benefit in that regard and hopefully, all that hard work will bear fruit throughout the year.
