Lock down backup center role

With big free agent addition Brook Lopez supplanting his role in the starting lineup, there was some speculation over just how much of a downgrade Henson will experience as it regards to his playing time.

Both Thon Maker and Christian Wood have worked their way into this discussion for various reasons, but Henson looks to be in pole position to serve as the backup to Lopez at the 5-spot.

That could be reading too much into the Bucks’ preseason play and the long list of players not available to play throughout the last week and a half only adds to why there shouldn’t be much stock put into that.

Despite all of those factors, it’s a role that is Henson’s to lose. There may come a point where that may not be the case, should Henson’ trademark inconsistencies or an injury surface over the course of the season (knocks on wood).

We’ll have to see what the season brings on that front, but if the same story that has largely defined Henson’s Bucks stint to date resurfaces yet again, it may lead to bigger questions being asked about his future in Milwaukee.
