Donte’s peaking

After logging the best performance of his very young NBA career, it’s time to turn our attention to Bucks rookie Donte DiVincenzo.

Playing nearly 18 minutes of action, DiVincenzo posted a career-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field (1-of-4 from three, 2-of-2 on foul shots), had three rebounds, one turnover and was a +17 on the night. As has been the case throughout the early going, DiVincenzo’s array of skills and competitive qualities shined during each and every one of his shifts on the court last night.

Fortunately, the 21-year-old’s scoring was at its finest last night as DiVincenzo was putting home strong, deft finishes throughout the night. The Big Ragu even capitalized on a couple of alley-oops from his teammates, one coming off a designed play out of a timeout.

While acknowledging we’re only six games into his rookie season, there is still something hard to define about what we’re seeing from DiVincenzo’s abilities as many Bucks fans and writers have noted so far. The Bucks’ recent history of first round picks having struggled to find their footing in the NBA certainly casts a cloud over this to some degree and from that sense, it’s been encouraging to see DiVincenzo grab the deer by the antlers.

Let’s hope these flashes continue from DiVincenzo as we settle into the regular season, seeing that he’s a fixture in the Bucks’ rotation at this point.
